Recital 2009

2009 Recital Information

Our 2009 Recital Shows titled “Back on Broadway” are scheduled for Friday, June 12th at 6pm and Saturday, June 13th at noon and 4pm. Your class will perform in one of the 3 shows. (Performing Groups are the only classes that will dance in more than one recital show.) Please refer to the “Recital Picture/Dress Rehearsal Schedule” to see when your class performs. The Dress Rehearsal and Recitals will be held at Cactus High School. (6330 West Greenway Rd.)

Costumes/Costume Accessories
Recital costumes will be here anytime from now through June. If you ordered or paid for your costume anytime after the original due date (December 13th) we will be receiving your costume in one of the later shipments. To ensure that there are no discrepancies in color and style, students are required to have the same color/brand of tights and shoes. Dee’s Dancewear (79th Avenue and Bell Road) carries all of the tights and shoes required. Please purchase new tights for the recital, and do not wear or wash them before the Dress Rehearsal or performance. (Note: Having a second pair of tights offers students and parents a great sense of security.) The Recital Accessories chart is included in this packet.

Performance Ready
For the Dress Rehearsal and the Recital Shows, all dancers need to be “Performance Ready.” This means: hair styled, make-up applied, and dressed in full costume (including tights, appropriate dance shoes, and hairpieces.) Tights serve as undergarments, please do not wear underwear with your tights because they will show through and be seen by the audience. Do not wear or bring jewelry or any other valuable items to the auditorium. No food, gum, or drinks are allowed in the auditorium.

Hair Styles for Recital Shows and Dress Rehearsal
Combo 3-4, Combo 4-5, Tap/Ballet- A half ponytail-sides of hair tied up in hair elastic (which should be same color as hair) rest of hair down, all curly.
Jazz/Acro Combo- Curly ponytails (hair elastic same color as your hair)
Hour-long ballet classes- Bun (part hair on dancer’s left side of head, hair swept towards the right side)
Jazz, tap and acro classes- Curly ponytails (hair elastic same color as your hair)
***All hair accessories need to be securely bobby pinned in hair***

Make-up
Make-up is necessary so that the stage lights do not wash out your child’s face.
Combo Classes (ages 3-5): Please apply eye make-up, some black mascara on the top lashes if possible, rosy blush, and red lipstick.
Ages 6-teens: Please wear eye makeup, black mascara, black eyeliner if possible, rosy blush, and red lipstick.
Performing Groups: Please see the copy of the “Face” diagram” (on the bulletin board) which shows where to apply makeup.

Recital Pictures:
Our Recital Pictures will be held Saturday, June 6th in the cafeteria at Cactus High School. Class photos and individual poses will be available. Picture packets will be distributed approximately a month before our Picture/Dress Rehearsal. Please bring the packet filled out. Lifetouch staff will be available to assist you with questions or materials. There is no obligation to purchase photos. Please come fully dressed in costume and hair appropriately styled. Do not forget to wear any hair pieces or accessories your costume may have. Please make sure that you have adjusted your child’s costume before Pictures and Dress Rehearsal. Most costumes have adjustable straps that you will need to secure. Straps will either criss-cross or go straight back. Each class needs to be the same; therefore, talk to your teacher about which way they should go. Also, be sure that you have the correct color shoes/tights. Label all costumes, tights, shoes and accessories with your child’s name.

Dress Rehearsal Instructions:
Immediately following the Pictures, students will go to the auditorium to perform their dance on the stage. The Dress Rehearsal allows the dancers to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costumes, and being onstage. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible. Participation in the Dress Rehearsal is mandatory. Remember that Dress Rehearsal is when you are able to videotape and take as many pictures of your child as you’d like while she is onstage- it is prohibited at the Recital shows.
We run an organized and timely Dress Rehearsal; your help with the process will guarantee a professional production. We will not be able to wait for late students and still keep to our schedule.

Videotaping
Please videotape and photograph your dancer during the Dress Rehearsal ONLY. Due to visual and safety reasons, flash photography and video cameras are NOT allowed in the auditorium during the Recital performances. There will be a professional videotaping of all Recital shows by “Mr. Video.” We will have order forms available at the studio and at the recital. Mail the order form to Mr. Video and they will send your video directly to your home. Do not bring payment/order form to the studio.

Recital
Recital Show Dates and Times: Friday, June 12th at 6pm and Saturday, June 13th at noon and 4pm. Dancers are required to arrive 30 minutes prior to your recital showtime. Once inside, follow the hallway to your assigned room. Parents with dancers ages 3-9 will “check in” their child at their assigned room with a Backstage Mom. These moms will stay with dancers throughout the show. We will have a TV/VCR playing Disney movies as well as a TV playing the LIVE recital performance. We also have coloring books, games, etc. for the dancers to use. All dancers will remain backstage during the entire show. For safety reasons, the backstage doors will be locked. NO ONE will be allowed to leave early from backstage. All dancers will participate in the Finale at the end of the show. At the conclusion of the performance, please send ONE adult (who may enter along either side of the stage) to “check out” your child. Please be patient with this process, and remember the lines will go faster if you send only ONE parent to pick up your dancer. If your child is 9 or older (students in the 9-l2yr and teen classes,) you may exit the auditorium and wait for them in the auditorium lobby. Before the recital, be sure that you have talked with your child regarding where you will meet her when the show is finished.

Recital Tickets
Seating will be general admission. Tickets may be purchased for $10 each at the studio. Each person attending the recital will require his or her own ticket. When writing checks (tickets on a separate check than tuition) please indicate “tickets” in Memo portion.

Reminders:
Students must respect other students’ space and property in the dressing rooms. The students will spend more time in the dressing rooms than onstage or in the auditorium, so please do your best to keep them organized and clean. Family members and friends don’t belong backstage or in the dressing rooms during rehearsals or the recital. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space, and dressing rooms are a private area. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of these areas. Those who wish to greet a performer after the show or present flowers should do so in the lobby areas.
At the Recital, we will have flowers and water for sale. Each show will last approximately 2 1/2 hours.
Performing Group Tryouts
To be eligible for auditions, dancers must be turning 8 years old during the 2009-2010 school year. Performing Group members compete in at least 3 competitions a year and perform at various functions like Glendale Glitters. They are required to take ballet, jazz, and tap classes (some dancers take a pre-pointe/technique classes.) If your child is interested in trying out, please see your teacher. Dancers must have teacher recommendations in order to attend the auditions. At the try-outs, dancers will be required to perform both ballet and jazz skills. Therefore, it is required that anyone wishing to try-out for Performing Group already have taken both jazz and ballet classes. Performing Group tryout dates will be posted at the studio when determined.
Other information
*Due to rehearsal for our recital dances, we will not be offering make-up classes during the months of May and June. *Participation in the Dress Rehearsal and Recital performances shall be in lieu of the week four of session eleven.
*If you would like to place an advertisement in our recital program, please obtain a “Business Ad” form from the front desk.
*Our summer session will begin the week of June 22nd.

**Recital time can be a demanding and hectic time of year. However, the more informed you are, the more at ease you will feel. Please be sure to keep this Recital Packet handy.
